Cherry and vanilla panettone

I would climb the tree in my grandparents’ garden and literally gorge on cherries, barely rubbing them between my hands for a coarse wash. They were irresistible eaten like that, stolen straight from the branches, cradled by the sun’s rays … amid grandma’s screams. I savor them again now in one of our Marchesi Panettone, and that sense of freedom and those screams that were actually caresses return to my heart.
